Psalm 127:1
• The reality that we don’t like is that we -
• build
• watch
• plan
• organize
• lead
• stay up late trying to get it right -
• and this verse tells us it’s entirely possible to do all of that......and it mean nothing......
• not because the work is bad -
• but because God is not the One actually behind it.
• “In vain” doesn’t mean nothing happens.
• it means -
• no lasting fruit
• no eternal value
• no real foundation
• Things can look successful on the outside......
• and still be spiritually empty
• The two roles specifically mentioned here are the builder and the watchmen;
• the builder = leadership, vision, creating, establishing
• the watchmen = guarding, protecting, discerning, staying alert
• Both are good and both are necessary........
• but both are powerless without God.
• So the question isn’t - are we growing?
• it’s - ‘is this for Him, coming from Him, and sustained by Him?
• If the LORD build it: -
• it stands
• it lasts
• it bears fruit
• If He doesn’t build it; -
• we burn out
• we strive
• we manufacture something that won’t last
• So before we build anything.......
• and before we guard anything.....
• we need to ask “Lord, are YOU in this”?
• because if not.....
• we’re just working hard at something that won’t last
Unless the LORD builds it....we’re not building a house -
we’re building a burden.....
For us as the body of Christ - this matters...
we can organize well.....
lead well.....
even grow.....
and still miss God.....
So the application is simple:
we don’t need a better strategy -
we need a deeper dependence
We don’t just ask what we should do next......
We ask “LORD what are YOU doing......and how can we join you”?
I hope you were encouraged by this...
until next time.....God bless
