Faith & Hospitality
Jason Martin
From the Beginning... / Genesis 18:1-15
Read Genesis 18:1-15.
God’s Presence
Read Genesis 18:1.
• At what point did Abraham recognize the LORD?
• God is present and at work, even if we don’t understand what’s going on.
Hospitality
Read Genesis 18:2-8.
• Faithfulness can be expressed through ordinary acts of service, even when we don’t understand what God is doing in a particular situation. This was radical hospitality.
A promise is a promise
Read Genesis 18:9-10.
• Did Abraham tell Sarah?
Human limitations
Read Genesis 18:11-12.
• Sarah correctly thinks that this is impossible by any human standard.
He knows the heart
Read Genesis 18:13.
• God knows your heart and inner thoughts
• Jeremiah 17:9-10, Psalm 139, John 2:24-25.
Divine Power
Read Genesis 18:14.
• We cannot try to limit what God can do by what we can imagine can be done
• Jeremiah 32:17, 27, Luke 1:37.
Human fear
Read Genesis 18:15.
• We cannot hide our doubts from God. We bring them to Him and allow His Word to correct our understanding.
